Signal Transduction & Metabolism Laboratory

Brussels, Belgium

The Signal Transduction & Metabolism Laboratory is located at the Erasme campus - Université libre de Bruxelles. We aim to translate fundamental discoveries to the clinic by a collaborative effort between scientists, physicians and the industry.

The strength of our work is the combined use of molecular biology, stem cell research, animal models of metabolic diseases and human samples. We are testing innovative strategies that can be used in pre-clinical studies for the early diagnosis and treatment of metabolic disorders.

Our Research

Pathogenesis of Type 1 Diabetes and Imaging

We are dedicated to finding effective detection, prevention and treatment strategies for autoimmunity development in type 1 diabetes.

Pathogenesis of Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes

We study the mechanisms by which obesity and type 2 diabetes affect metabolic physiology.

Liver Dysfunction and Cancer Development

We aim to determine novel diagnostic tools and the molecular pathways linking hepatic fat accumulation with liver cancer.

Inflammatory and Cell Death Signaling in Diabetes

We use cell biological, genomic, and proteomic approaches to identify and characterize the mechanisms leading to inflammation-mediated dysfunction and death of pancreatic β cells in diabetes.

Services

We offer laboratory support to coordinate research activities within the private sector.

Visit us

As a highly successful and internationally recognized laboratory, our groups comprise an exceptional body of established and young research professionals.

You are welcome to visit the Signal Transduction & Metabolism Laboratory to hear about our ongoing research and see how our scientists are working to improve the health of people with metabolic disorders, or to explore job opportunities.

Support our research

You have the opportunity to become a supporter of the work being undertaken at the Signal Transduction & Metabolism Laboratory - your support will help the new generation of junior researchers become experienced scientists and may make a difference in the search of better treatments for diabetes and liver cancer.
